Microsoft reduce cost for Boxed Windows Vista

The world biggest software company Microsoft will cut cost of some versions of Windows Vista, last Thursday said software makers.

The step came a day after court filings exposed internal oppose over which Windows XP PCs would be considered able to running the new operating system - and a reaction on at least one executive’s part that the business had “botched” the marketing of computers as “Vista Capable.”

Only prints of the year-old OS that are sold in packages directly to customers are affected by the charge cuts - not the versions pre-loaded on PCs. The cuts will range from 20 percent to 48 percent.

The reductions are to match with the late release in March of Vista Service Pack 1, a set of security fixes and other developments.

Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500) said the new charges will apply to the Home Premium and eventual versions of Vista, in both their bursting editions and the editions that improve an older or more basic operating system.

All these versions serve the small percentage of users who install an OP on their own; most public get the newest version of Windows only when they get a new PC.
