Canada: Carrier a 5 national Mobile possibility

By Peter Nowak — Quebecor Inc. has makes the possibility of 5 national mobile providers in Canada by Thursday announcing that it will offer on wireless airwaves across the nation, not just in Quebec.

The based company Montreal submitted a deposit of $317 million in the letters form of credit to Industry Canada on Monday ahead of the time limit to apply for the spectrum sale, which is scheduled to start on May 27.

“We have forever stated clearly that our Videotron auxiliary planned to make its own wireless network to supply the Quebec market. However, extraordinarily favorable conditions for new applicants, which may not at all occur again, persuaded us it is in the benefit of our shareholders that we try to enlarge our deployment crossways Canada,” said Quebecor CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau in a report. “We will see at the end of the auction if such an operation is possible.”

Peladeau had previously promised at least $500 million to make a cellphone network in Quebec and implicit that he may have his views set nationally.
